A Dialogue: Integrated Multi-sector Approaches – What Works and What’s Next?

After five years of implementing a holistic development approach that combined family planning, health, livelihood opportunities, and conservation efforts, the USAID-funded BALANCED Project will offer insights drawn from its accomplishments and lessons learned, as well as from experiences with scaling up integrated approaches in Africa and Asia. A short documentary on BALANCED’s efforts to improve women’s lives in rural Tanzania will be screened, followed by an interactive discussion designed to inform future development work. Tailored to Fit: Programming for the Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs and Rights of Young Women

Join the Wilson Center for a panel discussion on how the contraceptive needs of adolescent girls and young women vary by age, marital status, and country. Hear more about how programs with tailored approaches are working to better meet the needs and rights of young women around the world.
Dr. Kerry MacQuarrie, a senior research associate for MEASURE DHS and ICF International, will share the preliminary results of her upcoming report, “Unmet Need for Family Planning Among Youth: Levels and Trends.” Dr. Mengistu Asnake, the Ethiopia country representative for Pathfinder International, will discuss scaling up sexual and reproductive health services for young women and strategies to increase their access to a full range of contraceptives, including long-acting methods. And finally, Tanou Diallo, the West Africa regional representative for Pathfinder International, will discuss results and the applicability of lessons learned in India to a new program working with married young women and first time parents in West Africa.
